The Kiss (Lovers), 1907/8 – This classic image of human love and oneness marks the height of Klimt’s “Golden Period”, so-called after his gold-encrusted manner of painting. The realistic treatment of head and hands balances the abstract geometric forms which dominate the composition, heightening the sensuality of skin by surrounding it with flat brilliantly composed areas of decoration.
